A camera scanner where you type
Enable BarKey in Android settings, select it from the keyboard picker, focus a text field, and scan. BarKey decodes each camera frame on the device and inserts the result at the active cursor through Android’s input method connection. It does not use the clipboard or keep a permanent scan history.
Fast and Accurate modes support different scanning conditions. Optional Preview pauses automatic insertion and shows up to eight selectable codes; suggestions expire and cannot be selected after their editor or scanner context changes. Focus starts with a large outlined scan area that can be moved and resized; it decodes only inside the selected crop using the chosen scan mode. Keep the full code and a little clear space around it inside the box; enlarge the area if a code is missed. Single Scan allows one successful insertion per recognised text field. Undoing a scan makes an otherwise empty field available for another Single Scan. Focus works with either mode; Preview and Single Scan cannot be on together. Field recognition depends on information provided by the app you are using.
BarKey is free for private, personal use. Its source is public under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0, but the project is source-available rather than open source because commercial use is restricted. Company or workplace use, commercial activity, and paid redistribution need written approval. Companies should contact Amanda before installing or testing BarKey for work or evaluation; the app has no company trial or scan allowance. Request permission or a commercial version at barkey.support@hernow.net. Read more on the About page.
BarKey is designed for personal use on Android phones and tablets. It can also run on shared and Intune-managed devices, but the first-run terms limit app use to private purposes. If setup was skipped, BarKey opens the agreement when the keyboard is selected for the first time. It asks again only if the displayed terms or licence changes. Undo history stays in memory only and is cleared when BarKey restarts.
